Update log
What we changed, when, and why. Newest first.
Articles about messaging get written once and then quietly rot. That is the entire reason this site
exists, so it would be absurd to maintain it the same way. When a fact here changes — because software
shipped, because a carrier enabled something, or because we were wrong — we fix every page that depends
on it and write the change down here, with what it said before.
Current verification status: the site-wide verification pass has not been completed yet. 15 of 27 facts are confirmed against a primary source, 10 are pending verification and shown with an
unverified marker wherever they appear, and 2 are
questions we have deliberately declined to answer. How we verify

Before: Nothing — this is the first entry.
After: Site built. Every version-dependent claim on the site was entered into a single fact table with an explicit confidence level. One entry is marked confirmed; the rest are marked as pending verification and are shown to you that way rather than stated as fact. The build gate that blocks publication until every entry is confirmed is in place and currently failing on purpose.
Pages: /, /encrypted/, /green-bubble/, /feature-matrix/, /timeline/, /carriers/ · no primary source attached
What gets logged here
- Any change to a fact in the verification table — a version number, a feature status, a carrier's support state.
- Any correction prompted by a reader report, including who was right.
- Any entry that moves from unverified to confirmed, with the source we confirmed it against.
- Material changes to the privacy policy or terms.
Typo fixes, wording improvements and layout changes are not logged. This is a record of what we
believe, not of every keystroke.
When we re-check things
- Immediately after any iOS release, including point releases — the Apple-side facts.
- After significant Google Messages updates — the Android-side facts.
- Quarterly — everything, whether or not anything appeared to change.
- Immediately on a reader report — that specific fact, ahead of any schedule.
If you think something here is wrong, tell us. The contact page lists what to
include so we can reproduce it. A correction that turns out to be right gets fixed and logged the same
day.
